Construction Engineering and Management Minor

Construction Engineering and Management Minor | Undergraduate

Our Construction Engineering and Management (CEM) minor prepares students to lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of construction projects across the built environment. Designed to complement degree programs in architecture, civil engineering, and related disciplines, the minor combines technical knowledge with management principles to equip students with the skills needed to oversee projects from concept through completion.

Students gain exposure to key areas of construction engineering and management, including construction planning and scheduling, cost estimating, contract administration, risk management, safety, construction technology, and virtual building modeling. By integrating architectural, engineering, and managerial perspectives, the program provides a comprehensive understanding of modern project delivery and the collaborative nature of the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry.

Located in Washington, D.C., Howard University offers students access to one of the nation's most active construction and infrastructure markets. The program leverages the strengths of our architecture and engineering programs while connecting students to extensive industry partnerships, internships, site visits, and professional networks that enhance classroom learning and career readiness.

The CEM minor is ideal for students interested in project leadership, construction operations, infrastructure development, and the management of multidisciplinary teams. Graduates will be better positioned to pursue careers and leadership opportunities in the growing construction sector, where demand continues to increase for professionals who can bridge technical expertise and project management.
