Academic Advising
CEA academic advisors are here to guide and support every CEA student.
Each academic program in the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA) has an academic advising scheme that list the courses, and the order in which they should be taken, to satisfy degree requirements. Students are expected to meet with their academic advisor at least once a semester to ensure they are on track. Academic advisors are also excellent resources for students to discuss academic, professional, and personal matters that may impact their overall performance and collegiate experience. Students completing course requirements listed in the first and second year of their academic scheme are typically assigned to the CEA Office of Student Services (OSS) staff for professional advising. Students will transition to a faculty advisor within their major department once they are ready to register for the prescribed third year courses listed in their academic scheme.
The first and second year of studies or the academic advising scheme typically translates to freshman and sophomore year, while third and fourth year refers to junior and senior year. However, a student's official classification (e.g., freshman, sophomore, etc.) may not directly align with the academic advising scheme. For example, a sophomore may be taking first year courses according to their academic advising scheme. Some reasons for this include prior earned credit, change of major, placement exams, and outstanding prerequisites. Therefore, students should refer to their year in the scheme rather than their classification for academic advising.
