ASCE National Capital Section 2024 scholarship recipients

Howard University civil engineering rising seniors Brooklynn Blackwell, Jordaina Hewitt, and Miles Davis received the prestigious American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Scholarship. Recent graduate William Hawkins was also recognized by the society as outstanding senior. The students were awarded at the 2024 Awards Banquet held by the ASCE National Capital Section.

The ASCE Scholarship Trust committee awards scholarships on merit to sophomore and junior students who are endorsed by their faculty advisor or dean and submit an application along with their transcripts for review. The selection criteria includes academic achievement and potential, interest in pursuing a career as a civil engineer and demonstrated leadership in extracurricular activities.

“This achievement reflects the high caliber of education and training provided by Howard University's Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. We are immensely proud of our students' accomplishments,” said Claudia Marin, Ph.D., professor of civil and environmental engineering and advisor to the ASCE Howard University Chapter.

The ASCE Howard University Student Chapter provides educational resources, participates in engineering challenges, and hosts a variety of networking activities.

“This highly competitive scholarship is a testament to the students' academic excellence, dedication to their field, and their potential to make significant contributions to the engineering community,” said Sanjib Sharma, Ph.D., assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering and co-advisor to the ASCE Howard University Chapter.
