EGPP-101 - Introduction to Engineering, 2 Credits
Course introduces and engages first year engineering students to and in the process of innovation in engineering design; the engineering profession and its impact on issues of relevance to society; and non-technical skills critical to professional success.

CHEG-102 - Introduction to Engineering Design, 3 Credits
Introductory course on understanding chemical process design within the context of technological, social, cultural and intellectual developments; The course will help students to appreciate and understand the intellectual framework of engineering and the critical thinking that goes into it; Students will be expected to incorporate an understanding of the role of economic, safety, environmental and ethical considerations into the practice of engineering; and understand the way data is obtained and analyzed with an introduction to software packages that will be utilized in the chemical engineering program; and to provide students the skills and background necessary to be able to interpret data and discuss and communicate results and conclusions.

CHEG-201 - Chemical Engineering Material Balances, 3 Credits
Course involves the application of energy balances to chemical engineering operations and processes that involve non-reactive and reactive systems. The first law of thermodynamics and the correlation of chemical and physical properties are treated along with chemical and phase equilibria.

CHEG-202 - Chemical Engineering Energy Balances, 3 Credits
Course involves the application of energy balances to chemical engineering operations and processes that involve non-reactive and reactive systems. The first law of thermodynamics and the correlation of chemical and physical properties are treated along with chemical and phase equilibria.

CHEG-301 - Fluid Mechanics, 3 Credits
Course involves the quantitative study of chemical engineering unit operations including fluid flow in piping systems and through porous media; motion of particles in fluids; metering; and differential analysis of pipe flow. This course provides realistic situations involving fluid flow that requires students (individually and in groups) to formulate problem statements. Basic sciences, physical laws and principles, and mathematics are applied to analyze problems and arrive at solutions using computer software. Results are critically examined for reasonability, verified for validity of assumptions and discussed.

CHEG-302 - Heat Transfer, 3 Credits
Course involves the quantitative study of chemical engineering operations including heat exchange by conduction, convection and radiation as well as Heat Exchanger Design.

CHEG-303 - Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics, 3 Credits
Course focuses on the basic thermodynamics theorems for single phase behavior (gas and liquid) of pure and the mixture system, phase equilibrium, and the modeling for physical processes and industry applications.

CHEG-306 - Chemical Engineering Analysis, 3 Credits
Course introduces the topic of chemical engineering analysis that enables us to express engineering problems in precise quantitative terms. This translation process, from physical system to mathematical description, will be emphasized throughout the course. The fundamental principles that will be used are the conservation laws of mass and energy adapted to the particular situations of interest. These may be closed systems (no flow into or out of the system boundaries) or open systems where such flows occur. We will solve systems of algebraic and first order differential equations with an emphasis on the modeling and simulation techniques of the MATLAB, C and C++.

CHEG-401 - Separation Process/Mass Transfer, 3 Credits
Quantitative study of chemical engineering operations involving equilibrium stage and differential mass transfer operations. To instruct the students on the fundamentals and the methodologies of equilibrium stage and differential mass transfer operations for the calculation of separation parameters.

CHEG-402 - Process Control, 3 Credits
Involves methods of process control, dynamic response of chemical processing equipment and systems, modes of control and controller characteristics, and use of mathematical and experimental models.

CHEG-403 - Chemical Reaction Engineering, 3 Credits
Course introduces the fundamentals of chemical reaction kinetics and application of kinetics, thermodynamics, and transport phenomena to the design of chemical reactors.

CHEG-413 - Chemical Engineering Laboratory, 3 Credits
Course involves the application of chemical engineering process and unit-operation principles to quantitative experiments in small-scale equipment.

CHEG-406 - Introduction to Polymer Systems, 3 Credits
Elective. Modern industrial and commercial processes for production and fabrication of polymer materials.

CHEG-407 - Process Design I, 3 Credits
Involves cost estimation, materials of construction, and fabrication selection in the optimum design of chemical processing systems and equipment along with optimization incorporating the time-value of money and mathematical programming techniques.

CHEG-409 - Independent Study in Chemical Engineering, 1-3 Credits
Elective. Provides advanced treatment of selected topics in chemical engineering, with independent study subjects arranged to fit the interests of the student and advisor.

CHEG-412 - Transport Phenomena, 3 Credits
Elective. Provides a unified treatment of momentum, heat, and mass transport, with development of equations of change and application of microscopic and macroscopic balances to a variety of chemical engineering problems.

CHEG-414 - Process Design II, 3 Credits
Instruction in the use of chemical engineering and economic principles in solving problems of design and optimization of chemical processing systems and equipment, along with application of optimization methods and computer simulations in determining optimum selection of process variables.

CHEG-416 - Fundamentals of Environmental Engineering, 3 Credits
Elective. Introduction to the concept of the environment and the various mechanisms by which engineers, especially chemical engineers interact with the environment. It will focus attention on the definition of the environment and the social and political implications of technology's mediation of our everyday lives. Environmental ethics and our human interaction with the environment and what it constitutes will be discussed. The diversity of the interface between society and the environment will be highlighted with the concept of environmental equity underscored using examples of environmental racism, (in)equity and (in)justice.

CHEG-417 - Frontiers in Nanoscience Engineering and Technology, 3 Credits
Elective. Course introduces a broad general knowledge of nanoscience and nanoengineering, as well as substantial knowledge of the processing, synthesis properties, and characterization of nanomaterials and systems. The course will cover the background and foundation for envisioning potential opportunities in nanotechnology. Participants will develop familiarity with the basic science and engineering aspects of nanotechnology and acquire a deeper understanding of a focused topic through a classroom presentation.

CHEG-424 - Bioprocess Engineering, 3 Credits
Elective. Course provides students with a rudimentary but sufficient and necessary introduction to the biological sciences, which underlie the applications of chemical engineering principles and practices to the biological processing of materials into marketable products and processes. The principles and practices of chemical engineering are then brought to bear on phenomena in the various life-science disciplines leads then to studies of bioreactor engineering, kinetics and design, and bioseparations processes.

CHEG-425 - Biomedical Engineering, 3 Credits
Course introduces topics of biomedical engineering and presents the interactions between biological systems and quantitative scientific models. The course also explores how biological systems can be described using engineering principles and how engineering approaches may influence the fate of biological systems. Concepts covered will include areas such as biotechnology (molecular and cellular principles) and engineering systems (biomechanics, biomaterials, bioelectronics, bioimaging, etc.). To fulfill this goal, the course uses a combination of lectures, discussion sections, assigned readings and projects.
