Welcoming Interim Dean John M. M. Anderson, Ph.D.

The College of Engineering and Architecture welcomes the appointment of John M. M. Anderson, Ph.D. as interim dean. His appointment was officially announced to the university community by President Wayne A.I. Frederick on April 15, 2019:

I am pleased to announce the appointment of John M. M. Anderson, Ph.D. as the interim dean of the College of Engineering and Architecture (CEA).

A faculty member in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science since 2002, Dr. John M. M. Anderson holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Virginia, an M.S. in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and an Sc.B. in electrical engineering from Brown University.

Concomitant with his comprehensive academic experience, Dr. Anderson possesses an exceptional professional background. Dr. Anderson joined Howard University following his tenure as associate professor at the University of Florida and visiting associate professor at the University of Maryland, College Park. Dr. Anderson has also served as an associate editor for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Signal Processing Letters and as a health science administrator for the National Institute for Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering at the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Anderson is an NSF CAREER Award recipient and holder of several U.S. patents. Dr. Anderson’s research interests lie in the areas of signal and image processing. Currently, the problem of reconstructing images for ground penetrating radar receives his greatest attention. Dr. Anderson has successfully developed image reconstruction algorithms for medical imaging modalities such as positron emission tomography and X-ray computed tomography.

Dr. Anderson’s priority is to continue enriching the college experience for our current and incoming engineering, architecture and computer science students.

“Working with Howard University's leadership and my College of Engineering and Architecture colleagues to advance our research and prepare our students for the next phase in their academic endeavors and professional careers will be my continued focus,” Dr. Anderson says. “I’m deeply honored to have been appointed interim dean and look forward to serving in this role.”

Provost and Chief Academic Officer Anthony K. Wutoh, Ph.D. commented in the April 18, 2019 Howard Newsroom Press Release:
