Department Chair and Select Students Invited to 2022 AIChE Gala
Chemical engineering seniors Olabisi Bello, Dominic Davis, Naomi Calhoun, accompanied by Patrick Ymele-Leki, Ph.D., interim chair of the Howard University Department of Chemical Engineering, were invited to attend the 2022 American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Gala.
Each year, the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) hosts a gala to recognize companies and their leaders for solving societal problems and benefiting humanity through the safe and responsible practice of chemical engineering. The 2022 AIChE Gala, Engineering the Extraordinary, was held in New York City in December. Those honored at the gala were Christophe Beck, chairman and CEO of Ecolab and Michael K. Wirth, chairman of the board and CEO of Chevron, and Paula T. Hammond, institute professor and chemical engineering department head at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Koch Institute for Integrative Cancer Research.
Davis and Bello, both recipients of the 2022 AIChE NCS Outstanding Student Award, and Calhoun, president of the Howard University AIChE Student Chapter, had the opportunity to meet with the honorees and also meet other leaders from AIChE, Chevron, Ecolab, Dupont, Merck, and other organizations and companies. These outstanding students also served as Howard ambassadors and interacted with and provided guidance to high school STEM students who are considering applying to college. Our participation at the gala was made possible through a partnership between the Howard University Department of Chemical Engineering and Chevron with an invitation from Cynthia Murphy-Ortega, manager of university partnerships and association relations at Chevron.
