Departments
Architecture (ARCH)
Architects design so much more than buildings. With the fundamental design vocabulary, they apply their critical thinking skills and the design process to imagine and create places that support human endeavors at a variety of scales. This might be enhanced by computer animations, 3-D modeling, and computer generated renderings. Our five-year program provides students with a myriad of opportunities to design efficient and aesthetically pleasing built environments. Students explore a range of architectural typologies, tectonics, and settings and engage a broad perspective on the human environment.
Chemical Engineering (ChE)
Chemical engineers are the creators of products that enhance our quality of life. They transform raw materials into the products we use daily. Our program prepares students for success beyond the traditional chemical and petroleum industries. Competency in areas such as food processing, bio technology, pharmaceutical production, and electronic manufacturing is achieved through the study of material and energy balances, heat and mass transfer, fluid mechanics, chemical reactions, process control and other chemical processes.
Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE)
Civil and environmental engineers plan, design and maintain the foundations for our built environment, including highways, bridges, canals and water treatment systems. CEE is arguably the oldest engineering profession, dating back to the first time someone constructed a roof over a shelter. Since that time, the field has grown tremendously and employment is projected to grow faster than average due to the Nation’s increasing population and aging infrastructure.
Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS)
Electrical engineers are creators of advancements in fuel cell technology, hydroelectricity and solar energy, as well as computers, smart phones, satellite transmission, nano-systems and other multi-disciplinary fields. Our program prepares students to be active and influential in the world of electronics and electricity as researchers, designers, developers and manufacturers.
Computer engineers are the creators of software and systems that automate and streamline processes used in telecommunication, robotics and other 21st century technological advances. Our program prepares students to be trail-blazers that team with other engineering disciplines to specialize in areas such as digital systems, operating systems, test-tool design, and micro-processing.
Computer scientists create software designed to offer solutions to complex problems, once considered unsolvable due to the marginal speed, accuracy and versatility of the modern computer. Our program produces versatile professionals who have a solid foundation in mathematics, computer science, and systems engineering and are able to apply these to practical use. Our graduates are able to identify, model, analyze, and solve challenging real-world problems and have specialized technical knowledge of computer science.
Mechanical Engineering (ME)
Mechanical engineers apply the principles of mechanics and energy to the design of machines and devices. They influence the design of systems such as wind and solar energy devices, turbines for electrical power generation, prosthetic devices and artificial limbs, automatic doors and sporting equipment such as tennis shoes and golf clubs. Our program prepares students to be major contributors, designers and developers in areas such as nanotechnology, the automobile industry, jet and spacecraft production as well as heating and air conditioning systems.
